Combined Martial Arts Camp
Over the past few days I was at a combined camp of 4 martial arts. Namely Judo, Kyokushin, Muay Thai and Wing Chun. This is the 2nd year such a camp is organised, this time with even more martial arts. And so I was hoping to participate having being part of the organising committee last year. But alas, they were in need of people so I had to help out by playing a ghost. I was stationed outside the window of one of the hostel room. And guess what, one can only go out by a muscle up. So I was this 1 desolate soul stationed outside the window with mosquito coil burning all around me. Almost suffocated from all that smoke.
Like all camps, lack of sleep is understandable. But compound that with me sleeping at 4am for most days prior to the camp, I was pretty much a zombie on the 2nd day, having only slept 2 hours. The best part was that there was a demo for a large part of the whole day till apart evening. 4 different groups took turns visiting the various martial arts. As it is with judo, what will it be without randori. In between sessions I played a lil groundwork and it sure was exhausting. Come the end of the 4 sessions I was dead beat. However, the fire to randori especially groundwork was ignited. There’s still so much to learn, so much to improve. It’s kinda addictive in fact.
The night was a pretty quiet affair save for a couple of beers in the wee hours in the morning outside of hostel. Overall, though it was tiring it still was alright. I took home with me the desire to improve as well as the desire to train Judo, which I will when things get less hectic. Also dawned on me that, it’s not how many technique you know. But how do you adapt to each situation. There isn’t 1 fixed way of doing things.

Gym Trainings plus A Fun Night With The Boys
It was gym time once again. As usual Jordon was late so I started on my own 1st. After the crazy upping of 10 kg on my deadlift last week, it was time to go easy a lil on the poundage.
Squat — 70kg, 5×5
Deadlift — 82.5kg, 5×5
Bench Press — 55kg, 5×5
Weighted Pullups — 15kg, 5×5
For some unknown reason my muscles were fatigued when it came to benching. Couldn’t increase the weight. Perhaps I hadn’t eaten enough before the gym session.
Anyway, we had a poker cum potluck session at Angela’s place later at night. Thanks for providing the space and food Angela. Pasta was “quite” nice. Had lotsa fun there with the good company and good food.
It happened to be Victor’s birthday too. Happy Birthday Victor! May this be the startof better years to come.
Birthdays have a special meaning for each of us. More so for guys then girls, since girls get the whole hoo-ha every year. For guys it’s usually a casual toned down affair, or sometimes not celebrated at all. A simple greeting and cake can make that guy the happiest person on the earth for that moment.
I want a cake and more for my birthday this year too.
